This past Friday Nile Rodgers was presented with the prestigious Icon Award at the 2015 Broadcast Music Inc R&B/Hip Hop Awards.

The Awards ceremony held at Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills honored the previous year’s most performed r&b and hip hop songs. Rodgers was honored for his contribution to generations of musicians and his ability to bring people together. Past Icon recipients include the likes of The Jacksons, Snoop Dogg, George Clinton, James Brown, Isaac Hayes, Little Richard and Al Green. The evening features performances by B.o.B., ILoveMakonnen, Kelly Price,CeeLo Green, V Bozeman and many more. Other honorees included John Legend, who won song of the year for “All of Me” and DJ Mustard, who won Producer of the Year and Songwriter of the Year for writing hits like “2 0n,”Don’t Tell ‘Em,” “I Don’t F**ck With You,” “Main Chick,” and many more. Redbull provided cocktails for the festivities co-hosted by Ray J and BMI President and CEO Mike O’Neill, and Catherine Brewton. Producers such Kanye West, J Cole, Jim Jonsin, Michael “Finatik” Mulé and Isaac De Boni were also recognized by BMI for their talents. The night ended with Rodgers performing “Good Times” and “Rappers Delight” with Chuck D.
