50 Cent Was Going to Sign Meek Mill to G-Unit Records

Over the weekend, Meek Mill released his 4/4 EP, a welcomed teaser to his forthcoming Dreamchasers 4 mixtape, and on it was a song called “Gave ‘Em Hope,” which featured Meek sending a few shots at 50 Cent in support of his MMG head honcho, Rick Ross, who has feuded on and off with the Queens rapper for the better part of the last 8 years.

Since then, 50 Cent and Meek’s apparent riff has spilled over to Instagram and Flint, Michigan, and in classic 50 Cent fashion, it won’t end until he has the last word. It would seem that now would be the perfect time to take a quick walk down memory lane, specifically to an interview 50 Cent did with Bootleg Kev in 2012, the very year Meek broke into the mainstream and released his debut album, Dreams & Nightmares. At the tail end of Part 1 of the interview, Kev asks Fif which new street rappers he’s checked out, and 50 replies, “I like Meek Mill,” and admits to following his career arc since he donned a flailing set of braids in his freestyle videos. Then, the interview gets slightly more interesting, after 50 reels off a number of Philadelphia emcees, and then returns to Meek saying, “When he got his break–he’ll tell you if you ask him–I was actually going to sing him.”

My how the times have changed. Fast-forward to the 9:15 mark to see 50’s comments on Meek.
