Panthers Safety Roman Harper Left Yesterday’s Game Because his Eyeball Was…Dislodged

Yesterday was a great day for the Panthers franchise, as they advanced to Super Bowl 50 with a decisive beatdown of the Cardinals–previously thought of as a formidable foe for Cam’s boys–less than a week after their fearless, dancing leader, Cam Newton, earned his first NFL MVP award. Roman Harper however, one of the team’s defensive leaders, suffered a bit of a gruesome setback en route to victory.

The longtime New Orleans Saint is enjoying just his second season in Carolina, and it’s been a productive year, as Harper netted 46 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries in 16 games for the 2015-2016 NFC Champions. Yesterday, in a freakish play, Harper collided with teammate Luke Kuechly, interrupting the healing process of his very recent Lasik eye surgery. The Charlotte Observer provided some details:

Free safety Harper took a shot from linebacker Luke Kuechly early in the second quarter and did not return to the game.

“The flap on my cornea shifted so I couldn’t see out of my eye,” Harper said after the game, making a vague reference to his Lasik eye surgery that also didn’t help matters in this case.

As SBNation grotesquely put it, the man’s eyeball was all but flapping in the wind, and once you’ve stomached that troubling imagery, find consolation in the fact that everything is all good now, and per reports, Harper will see an eye doctor today.
