Chris Paul Used an Interesting Technique to Gain Separation From Kevin Durant For a Jump Shot

Chris Paul and Kevin Durant are two All-Pro, likely Hall of Fame NBA players, so advantages during head-to-head match-ups won’t be gained easily. In this case, Kevin Durant learned that in a rather painful manner.

During last night’s nationally televised Thunder vs Clippers game–an important one, seeing as both teams will vie down the stretch for the Western Conference’s third seed–Kevin Durant found himself out on the wing guarding Paul, who opted to run a quick give-and-go play with DeAndre Jordan to get away from Durant. As Paul tried to get free of KD’s coverage, he flung his right arm out, apparently striking Durant in the groin. Durant immediately doubled over, and couldn’t do anything to stop Paul’s next move, which was a pull-up jump shot from just outside the paint. Durant didn’t make much of an issue over the play. He quickly collected himself and headed up-court to play offense.

Was the below-the-belt shot inadvertent? Maybe. But it sure was effective. New York Daily News reporter Frank Isola says Chris Paul could face consequences from the league for the move, either a fine or a one-game suspension.
