Mexican actress Kate del Castillo has accused Sean Penn of lying about his interaction with Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, the shifty drug lord who infamously escaped from a Mexican high-security prison—not once, but twice.
According to an online article published by The New Yorker, del Castillo had a few issues with details dispelled in the lengthy piece penned by Penn. One dispute the actress proposed involved a Mexican military checkpoint, where soldiers allowed them to pass after recognizing one of Guzman’s sons.
Mexico’s attorney general has announced the office is now investigating del Castillo to determine whether or not she accepted support from the cartel leader to fund her tequila business. Del Castillo went on to tell the The New Yorker, Penn’s claim he told her he was acting as a journalist was “total and complete builsh*t.”
