Mariachi USA Migrates to Cuba

Consistently lessening in restriction and inaccessibility, Cuba is seemingly opening up to the thought and concept of tourism, commerce and culture swapping. Mariachi USA, a festival regularly relegated as it’s title suggests to the United States, will be venturing overseas to the land of Cuba this October 4-11, providing the locale with 25 entertaining singers, musician and dancers. The iconic festival, which not only offers a visual spectacle but gives attendees access to workshops run by local students and performers, is set to become just a bit more authentic. As the second longest-running show to play at the high profile Hollywood Bowl venue, Mariachi USA is set to host a five hour long performance including bands from Mexico and the US at a novel location.

“My driving passion has always been to return to Cuba to entertain my people, to do what I do best,” exclaimed Rodri J. Rodríguez, Mariachi USA founder and concert producer. “I’m taking a version of what we’ve been presenting at the Hollywood Bowl for 27 years. Our sole purpose is to entertain the people of Cuba in a unique cultural exchange, uniting the heritage of three countries. We are creating a labor of love, celebrating music and the spirit of humanity.”

Alongside acts such as the Rolling Stones and Diplo, Mariachi USA is taking advantage of an opportune moment to show off to Cuba a hint of the American way of translating tradition.
