The search continues after convicted murderer John Modie escaped from a southern Ohio prison last night [Sunday, March 27].
The Hocking Unit officials at the Southeastern Correctional Complex in Nelsonville discovered Modie’s absence during an 11pm count on Sunday.
According to authorities, the nearby Hocking College main campus closed this morning during the manhunt.
The 58-year-old inmate was sentenced to 18 years to life in prison for murdering and kidnapping a woman in 2003, according to his records.
Modie is described as a white male, approximately 6’4 and 230lbs. He has gray hair, a grey mustache and was last seen wearing a blue hoodie, grey sweatshirt and blue pants.
The prison officials are searching the facility while the local police and Ohio State Highway Patrol search the surrounding prison.
As of now, the entire area is on patrol and authorities ask the public to cautiously look out for the suspect.
