End Of An Era: American Idol’s Final Episode Airs Tonight

After 15 seasons, American Idol will be ending tonight [April 7].

Based off popular British show Pop Idol, the series began in the summer of 2002. After the first season, the show became one of the biggest reality singing competitions in the world, giving new artists major exposure, record contracts, financial security and more.

Last night, the final contestants for the title were revealed: La’Porsha Renae and Trent Harmon.

Tonight’s finale is expected to be spectacular, with performances by the judges Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban. A few of the biggest alumni from the series will also be performing, including Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry and Fantasia.

American Idol was originally hosted by Ryan Seacrest and Brian Dunkleman, along with judges Randy JacksonPaula Abdul and Simon Cowell.

When Seacrest signs off tonight with his signature “Seacrest out!” it will be for the final time. The end of an era, indeed.
