Reports flooded the newswire this past weekend in regards to current Golden State Warriors assistant coach Luke Walton interviewing with Phil Jackson to potentially be the head coach of the New York Knicks next season. Walton, who had previously played for the Jackson on the Los Angeles Lakers years ago, has been on the Knicks radar for quite some time. Today though, NYDN’s Frank Isola clears things up while also revealing that Walton has no interest in coaching the struggling franchise.
Isola shares that the two spoke via phone and saying that is was “an interview” is somewhat a stretch. Apparently, Walton told Jackson that he is not interested in the position and per Isola, is unsure if the two will speak on the subject again.
Luke Walton, according to NBA source, told P Jackson that as of right now he’s not interested in NYK job. Unclear if/when they’ll talk again

Luke Walton has a pretty good job now. Plus, with Steve Kerr’s back issues who knows how things play out in GS. Lakers could also be in play — Frank Isola (@FisolaNYDN) April 18, 2016
Luke Walton turned Phil down for assistant job NYK in 2014. Considering what’s happened to Warriors & Knicks last 2 years, NY is tough sell.

Phil spoke to Luke Walton by phone the other day. Even praised the Warriors during their conversation. Humble Phil? How’s it goink? — Frank Isola (@FisolaNYDN) April 18, 2016
Also, calling Phil’s phone conversation with Luke Walton “an interview” is a bit much. Sounds dramatic but it’s not true.
