Reuters is reporting Amazon, the giant online retailer, is set to launch a standalone streaming music service. The service will most likely be available later this year.
The streaming service will reportedly cost $9.99 a month, similar to plans from Apple Music and Spotify.
The report also says Amazon is nearing a deal to expand its catalogue to offer a music selection closer to its rivals. Currently Amazon offers unlimited music streaming to its Prime members, but its catalogue is limited.
This service is another move away from Amazon’s annual subscription model. Recently, Amazon made their Prime service available for a monthly subscription. This service is also meant to make Amazon’s home speaker, the Echo, which can search the internet and order products, more appealing to consumers.
