Golden State Warriors Has Their Eyes Set On Dirk Nowitzki

Fresh off of a disappointing NBA Finals defeat to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Golden State Warriors are already plotting to come back clicking from all cylinders. According to recent reports, the Warriors are planning to add scoring reinforcement in the form of current Dallas Mavericks forward, Dirk Nowitzki.

Mercury News’ Tim Kawakami reports the Warriors are planning to become very aggressive in landing the “The Germanator.” With Nowitzki announcing he was opting out of his contract to test the free agency market in May, sources believed the 2007 NBA MVP had no intent of going elsewhere. But with the recent announcement of the Warriors being interested in the 17 year veteran, this has the potential to shake up the free agent market.

The 13-time NBA All Star has proven he can help fix the cause of what ended the Warriors’ historical season on a disappointing note, a.k.a. taking down LeBron James. Adding Dirk to the team will only make the Warriors even more difficult to defend, as they’ll have a plethora of shooters ready to light up the score board in a blink of an eye.

What may be even scarier is Dirk isn’t Golden State’s primary target: Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant is the number one star the Warriors front office is allegedly gunning for. With Durant expressing his preliminary interest in suiting up for San Antonio or the Warriors, things in the Western Conference could get real interesting really quick. With a potential lanky 6’10 scoring machine in Durant, the Splash Brothers (Curry and Thompson) and the versatility of Draymond Green, Golden State may have the potential in breaking their own regular season record. Will it lead to a NBA title or just another disappointing historical run? Only time will tell as free agency begins July 1.
