The Atlanta Hawks have officially made the first splash of the 2016 offseason, as they’ve traded Jeff Teague to the Indiana Pacers in a three-team deal with the Jazz.
The Hawks send Teague to the Pacers, who will ship their 5-year man George Hill to the Utah Jazz. In return, the Hawks received the 12th overall pick in tomorrow night’s NBA Draft from Utah. (Utah was expected to take either Washington’s freshman sensation Dejounte Murray or overseas standout Furkan Korkmaz from Turkey.) This makes for somewhat of a homecoming for Teague, who was born and raised in Indianapolis.
With this move, the Hawks are all but declaring Dennis Schroder, who emerged as an electric option at point guard this season–especially during the playoffs–as their point guard of the future. This deal came after Teague spent 7 seasons with Atlanta, the team that drafted him with the 19th pick in the first round of the 2009 draft. He’ll finish with per game averages of 12 points and 5 assists.
