Another One: Unarmed Black Man With His Hands Up Shot by Florida Police

Today, a 47-year old behavioral therapist is recovering following an incident that took place earlier this week on Monday [July 18, 2016].

Charles Kinsey was in the street attempting to help his 23-year old autistic patient when officers were called to the scene when someone reported a man with a gun threatening suicide.

What officers found was Kinsey and his unidentified patient, who had previously run out of a group home and into the street with a toy truck in his hand.

In a video that captured the moments before and after the incident, Charles Kinsey can be heard explaining to the officers that neither of the two men were armed, and that his patient simply had a toy truck in his hand.

“All he has is a toy truck in his hand, a toy truck,” Kinsey pleads while lying in a supine position in the middle of the road. “I’m a behavior therapist at a group home.”

At some point during a negotiation with the two men, an officer fired his weapon, striking Kinsey three times in the leg. This moment was not caught on tape and it is currently unclear as to why the officer opened fire.

Since the incident, the officer has been placed under administrative leave, with am investigation with the assistance of the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office pending.
