Kanye West and Drake‘s perceived cold war appeared to come to an end in 2013 when Yeezy and the Toronto rapper were spotted partying together, celebrating the release of Drake’s Nothing Was The Same album. Yeezy went so far as in to praise Drake’s songwriting ability, speaking specifically about the Boi-1da-produced “The Language.”
Since then, ‘Ye and Drake have evolved from peers into best buddies. They’re neighbors in the exclusive Los Angeles neighborhood of Calabasas, and have worked closely together in recent months. (Drake contributed songwriting to Kanye’s The Life of Pablo album, Kanye appeared on the initial version of Views‘ lead single, “Pop Style.”) Kanye even made a special appearance at Drake’s annual OVO Fest last year, ending any lingering suspicion that there would ever be a full-blown rap beef between the two.
So, it’s only fitting that last night, as Drake’s Summer Sixteen tour played Chicago for the second consecutive night, Yeezus himself made a climactic guest appearance, emanating out of the stage–Lil’ Kim at the 2015 BET Awards style–to the sounds of his “Pop Style” verse.
“That’s that Chicago / South, south side! That’s the motto.”
