Since being signed to Roc Nation in 2010, Hip Hop fans have been heavily anticipating the release of Jay Electronica’s first studio album (Act II: Patents Of Nobility (The Turn)). His mixtape, Act I: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge) received phenomenal reviews and the announcement of the studio album sequel was accompanied with high praise.

The announcement of Act I’s completion was way back in July 2011, giving fans the impression that they would be seeing the completed project sometime shortly after that. Five months passed and in March 2012, Jay tweeted the album was ready to be turned in to Roc Nation, once again stirring up anticipation, and once again leaving fans disappointed with no album surfacing.

It’s been five years since the announcement of the album’s completion and we’ve still yet to see a new project surface from Electronica, though many will argue there is good reason for the built up anticipation and are willing to wait as long as it takes to get said project.

When Jay is active in the game he is one of the most highly touted emcees and rarely delivers a sub par verse, let alone track. With a co-sign from JAY Z, whom many consider to be one of the best emcees to ever hold a microphone, there is reason to keep the faith. Electronica is a very private person and doesn’t frequent social media as much as his peers do, so it’s hard to get an exact reason for such a long delay.

Regardless, the questioning isn’t about what the quality of the album will be as much as if we will ever hear it. There’s no telling whether or not he’s even still working on the same project that was announced or if he decided to scrap the original and begin the process of crafting an album from the beginning again. Without Jay’s interaction with media, the fans are currently in the dark for the most part. One thing’s for sure, the buzz for it seems to stay around despite the fact it’s been years since being announced. If and when he decides to release Act II there will surely be a great amount of people rushing to listen to it. For the sake of the culture and its fans we can only hope that’s soon. As for now, the waiting continues.
