Lil Wayne’s lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG) and SoundExchange is being put on hold.
A Federal Court judge has decided Weezy’s lawsuits against Birdman and Universal are too similar, ruling the Cash Money suit should be resolved before he continues his claims against Universal.
Back in 2014, Wayne sued his longtime record label for at least $51 million in damages, saying Cash Money only paid him $2 million of the $10 million it owed him for recording and delivering the still unreleased Carter V album, that he had not been registered as a co-owner of the sound recordings included on his 2013 album I Am Not a Human Being II, as other accounting irregularities. Young Money Entertainment and Weezy originally sued Universal for more than $20 million in allegedly withheld royalties. He also adds he was supposed to get a solid percent from the recording and profits of Drake, Nicki Minaj and Tyga. However, the suit alleges UMG withheld a lot of that money to pay off Birdman’s advance debt.
A few days ago Wayne was spotted sporting a “F*ck Cash Money” hat out in public.
