French Gymnast Samir Ait Said Breaks Leg From Attempted Vault Landing

The pain for Samir Ait Said from France is a grueling experience that no one wants to endure. For the French gymnast on Saturday [August 6], his Olympic experience came to an abrupt end, due to a bad landing.

Ait Said broke his leg during a vault landing that was apart of his team qualification. It’s been stated that he fractured his tibia and fibula, with surgery becoming necessary step quick. As he attempted his double backflips on the vault, spectators and teammates couldn’t bare to look at Said as his landing turned into a brutal injury to his leg.

Team leader Corrine Moustard-Callon told reporters “It is very difficult for the team. He was one of the friendliest on the team which is very difficult… he came to win a medal and gave everything 200 percent.”

The 26 year-old said he will be back in 2020 to win gold in Tokyo. “Stay strong @samiraitsaid1. We have you in our thoughts and wish you a speedy recovery. Lots of love from the Rio 2016 team,” Rio’s 2016 team tweeted out earlier on Saturday. We’re hoping for a speedy and safe recovery for the gymnast.
