Jennifer Lopez will play the “Cocaine Godmother” Griselda Blanco in upcoming HBO film.
LBI Entertainment and Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions are working on a movie that will follow the life and death of Blanco, who is known for her notorious role in drug trafficking in the 1970s and ’80s. Lopez will play Blanco and also executive produce the film, alongside Laine Goldsmith-Thomas, Benny Medina, Julie Yorn, Rick Yorn and others.
“I’ve been fascinated by the life of this corrupt and complicated woman for many years,” said Lopez. “The idea of teaming with HBO felt like the perfect fit for finally bringing Griselda’s story to life.”
The “Cocaine Godmother,” also known as the “Cocaine Cowgirl” and the “Black Widow,” was shot and killed in Medellín, Colombia in 2012. She was 69.
