James Corden, host of The Late Late Show on CBS and the creator of Carpool Karaoke, apparently has a new hit. According to a Hollywood Reporter report, one of Corden’s other segments, Drop The Mic, has been picked up by TBS to become a full show.
Usually, Corden would face off in a scripted rap battle against one of his guests, or his guests would battle against each other. This is the second segment from his show that has been picked up by another company trying to make it into a full show. Apple TV picked up Carpool Karaoke, hoping to turn it into a new hit show, and Spike TV has already made a knock-off version of that segment called Caraoke Showdown.
This new show will probably be a lot like Lip Sync Battle, which was originally a segment on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. Lip Sync Battle gave Spike TV a huge ratings boost and produced a few viral videos, so TBS will be looking to capitalize on that success.
