After years of organizing, he finally cut the ribbon to the charter school, Capital Preparatory Harlem School, Monday at the the opening ceremony. The school is apart of a small charter network called Capital Prep Schools that expands from Connecticut to East Harlem. The founder of the charter network, Steve Perry, PhD, opened the ceremony revealing who inspired him to expand to Harlem:

It came to me through a person I never met, but always admired, a gentleman named Sean P. Diddy, Puff Daddy Combs!

Diddy later entered the stage and the auditorium filled with the inaugural class made up of 176 students went wild. He went on to deliver a 10 minute speech but one of the most notable things he said was, “Instead of me complaining about education, I want to do something about it. So that’s why I’m starting this school.”
