It looks like Ludacris is about to dominate the hosting world.
Earlier this year, one of Atlanta’s finest Ludacris became a host for revived competition reality show Fear Factor, and now the rapper is set to host a new music competition series that will take aspiring artists into the light of stardom, Best.Cover.Ever. The show will team up aspiring artists with fixed stars for a chance to perform a duet with them on YouTube. Stars lined up for the series include Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, Jason Derulo, Flo Rida, The Backstreet Boys, Keith Urban, Nicky Jam, Charlie Puth, Bebe Rexha, and DNCE, which appears to be a pretty well-rounded line-up.
Over the course of the summer, Best.Cover.Ever. started a call for fan submissions of covers by all ten aforementioned music stars. Songs include Katy Perry’s “Firework”, Demi Lovato’s “Confident”, and Jason Derulo’s “Trumpets.”
In each 30-minute episode, a fixed star will watch the hundreds of video submissions and choose artists from the two best submissions to fly out to Los Angeles for the chance to sing the melody with their icon. There will be a lot of happy tears shedding, but Ludacris finds the experience to be a way of seeing dreams come true. “I can just say there are a lot of tears involved. I think some of the best moments are the ones where you don’t realize how hard people have been working and how hard they’ve been struggling to make ends meet to continue on with their dreams,” Luda says in a statement.
According to the Atlanta rapper, he wished this opportunity had been available during his grind time, “I remember when I was a kid, I always loved LL Cool J. It would have been a dream come true if I could have sung ‘I’m Bad’ or one of his songs with him and get noticed,” says Ludacris via The Associated Press.
Best.Cover.Ever. may be a series that contributes to the growing popularity of YouTube shows and has a great chance at revolutionizing music competitions. Best.Cover.Ever will premiere exclusively on YouTube, November 20th. Be sure to check out the trailer above.
