The multi-talented Janelle Monae has been dragging her feet with releasing new music since her 2013 album The Electric Lady, but it isn’t mainly because of lack of effort. She’s appeared in three movies since that release, including the critically acclaimed Hidden Figures that was released in 2016. Monae, who is overcoming the fear of releasing her upcoming album, Dirty Computer, recently dropped a surprising nugget about the making of the album. With her latest single, “Make Me Feel” drawing comparisons to the late artist Prince, Monae stated on BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac that Prince had in fact worked on the album before his passing.
“Prince actually was working on the album with me before he passed on to another frequency, and helped me come up with sounds. And I really miss him, you know, it’s hard for me to talk about him. But I do miss him, and his spirit will never leave me.”
Prince’s DJ Lenka Paris also let it slip that Prince had a hand in crafting “Make Me Feel.”
