After winning Best Hero at the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards for his role as T’Challa in Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman acknowledged James Shaw Jr. for his real-life heroic achievement in April during his acceptance speech.
Boseman asked Shaw to join him on stage, where he personally handed Shaw the trophy.

Shaw Jr. disarmed an active shooter at Waffle House in Antioch, Tennessee. Although four people died, the death toll could’ve been worst if Shaw didn’t selflessly put his life on the line.
Boseman was saluted for his humble gesture. It was dope for T’Challa to show love to “a true hero that walks among us.”

This was an uplifting moment right when America really needed it. Chadwick Boseman gave the Best Hero Award he won for Black Panther to James Shaw Jr., the Waffle House shooting hero, who was in attendance at the #MTVAwards. Gotta love both of those dudes! pic.twitter.com/eXUcETakxx
