Rachel Maddow could hardly get the words out while reporting about the Trump administration sending immigrant children who were separated from their families to “tender age” camps in South Texas.

As Maddow’s show aired on MSNBC, the Associated Press published a report about the shelters and it appears that the news anchor was learning about the tragedy on the spot. She was reading the article on air, pausing before beginning to say “this is incredible.”
“Trump administration officials have been sending babies and other young children,” Maddow said before stopping to take an extended pause as she seemed to hold back tears. She then asked someone off-camera to “put up the graphic of this.” When nothing appeared, however, she tried to continue reading the story.
Rachel was only able to get through one more sentence before closing out, “I think I’m gonna have to hand this off.”
She took to Twitter to apologize about the breakdown.
Ugh, I'm sorry.
If nothing else, it is my job to actually be able to speak while I'm on TV.
What I was trying to do — when I suddenly couldn't say/do anything — was read this lede:
