LeBron James Agrees to Sign with Los Angeles Lakers

The decision is in and LeBron James will join the Los Angeles Lakers. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Klutch Sports brought the reveal to Twitter that King James has inked a 4 year, $154 million deal.

The decision falls in line with original reports that stated fans would know LeBron’s destination by the Fourth of July holiday. LeBron entered free agency by opting out of his deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers this past Friday (June 29), officially leaving his hometown team for the second time.

Reports, since free agency started, has aligned the star player’s future with everyone from the Houston Rockets to the Boston Celtics but reports state LeBron’s management team and officials have only met with the Cavs, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Philadelphia 76ers.

After the decision, LeBron shared an image of him surrounded by a sea of fans after winning the 2016 NBA Championship for the Cavs stating, “Thank you Northeast Ohio for an incredible 4 seasons. This will always be home.” LeBron leaves Cleveland as the franchise leader in every statistical category ranging from the number of games played to points to steals.

Also striking a deal with the Lakers is Kentavius Caldwell Pope who is returning to the team after last season. There currently aren’t any further details if any more stars will be joining LeBron James in Hollywood, but the Lakers reportedly still have their eyes on Kawhi Leonard.

In other free agency news, Paul George has agreed to return to the Oklahoma City Thunder and derailed any dream of a super team with him, King James and disgruntled San Antonio Spurs star Kawhi Leonard. George returned to the Thunder on a four-year deal that will bring him $137 million. The announcement came just before free agency officially began and was celebrated at a private party in OKC hosted by his teammate Russell Westbrook and featuring a performance from Nas.

NBA Champion and Finals MVP Kevin Durant have resigned with the Golden State Warriors as expected on a deal that will pay 61.5 million over the course of two years and Chris Paul inked a four year $160 million deal with the Houston Rockets who believe that they can still take down the Western Conference titan. Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan is heading to the Dallas Mavericks on a one year deal.
