Imagine that your freedom or a potential life and death interaction stemming from an arrest all relied on the flip of a coin. That’s the case in Georgia where two police officers have been issued administrate leave after it was found out an arrest of a woman came down to a coin flip.
Sarah Webb was stopped for speeding by officers Courtney Brown and Kristee Wilson and when faced with the decision to give a ticket and let her go or arrest her, the duo left it up to a chance of heads or tails. An investigation from 11Alive news revealed the two used a coin flip app and the entire ordeal was captured on a body cam.
Body cameras capture from the pull over to the arrest and even the truth that the arresting officers did not have detected speed rate. At the 2:30 mark of the footage the conversation regarding the coin flip occurred and even though the flip went in favor of Webb, she was still arrested and taken into custody.
Webb is now aware of the circumstance that led to his arrest in which she said “Wow, these people put my freedom in the hands of a coin flip. That’s disgusting.”
The case has reached beyond a local level and is being investigated by internal affairs.
