We all knew it was coming. It’s official that Carmelo Anthony is a Houston Rocket. What no one saw coming was Melo accepting a bench role.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski detailed the new deal for Carmelo will add $2.4 million over one year to his $25 million bag he got from the Atlanta Hawks. The shocker was the addition of “The Rockets are expended to bring Anthony off the bench this season.”
Just last year, Melo made headlines when he was adamant about not coming off the bench for the Oklahoma City Thunder and many believed that would be the same with his arrival in Texas, but apparently, there was an agreement to adjust his role with his new team.
Melo is scheduled to arrive in Houston on Monday to finish his physical. Melo also reportedly met with the Miami Heat about possibly joining the team in South Beach.
Free agent Carmelo Anthony plans to sign his one-year, $2.4M deal with the Houston Rockets today, league sources tell ESPN. He traveled to Houston and he’s completing his physical.
