Ailing soul legend, Aretha Franklin, was in many people’s thoughts during the Detroit stop of Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s On The Run II visit on Monday night.
Opening act, DJ Khaled whipped the packed crowd at Ford Field in Franklin’s hometown into a craze by playing her famous track “Regard.” Hours earlier, reports surfaced saying the 76-year-old Queen of Soul was “gravely ill.”
Beyoncé devoted the entire show to the legend. “We cherish you and thank you,” she told the gathering of people, per the Detroit Free Press. She described Aretha Franklin’s music to be “beautiful.”
After performing the opening song with Jay-Z, Beyoncé said: “This show is dedicated to Aretha Franklin,” while also saying, “We love you and thank you” #OTII #Detroit
