The father of NBA champion Richard Jefferson was killed in a Compton drive-by shooting Wednesday. TMZ reports Richard Jefferson Sr. was shot outside of a liquor store. He was present with two additional men. Jefferson was shot multiple times in the torso and pronounced dead at an area hospital.
The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the shooting. It is currently not clear if Jefferson was the target of the shooting.
Jefferson Sr. was 65-years-old and was building a relationship with his son recently, according to ESPN. As a child, Jefferson moved to Arizona with his mother and her husband.

Richard Jefferson, the son, played for the Denver Nuggets last season appearing in 24 games.
