Film mogul Tyler Perry is known to play Madea, the character that gave him an empire. The Madea franchise has helped launch Perry into a major player on both the big screen and the small screen. But the Have and Have Nots creator is also known for his generosity. The filmmaker paid off all the layaway balances of customers in two area Walmarts in Atlanta. The total bill at both spots came to $432,635. All the folks had to do was to show up to the Wal-Mart and pay a penny. Santa Claus has come to the ATL.
On his Instagram, Perry said, “If you have a layaway at either place and it was in there as of 9:30 this morning. Then I have paid for all of your layaways for Christmas. So Merry Christmas. I know it’s hard times and a lot of people are struggling,” Perry suggested. “I’m just really, really grateful to be able to be in a situation to do this. So God bless you. Go get your stuff.”
Perry intended for his generous gift to be anonymous but someone let the cat of out of the bag. Perry said, “ But you know how nothing stays secret these days, so I’m just going to go on and tell you.”
