Over the last few months, fans of Marvel’s scripted shows on Netflix have been shocked by the changes that have recently happened. Netflix announced the cancellation of Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and DareDevil. It was believed that the Marvel shows that received the ax on Netflix would be brought over to the new Disney + streaming service that debuts in 2019. But some more bad news for fans came this week. Netflix Marvel heroes reportedly are not allowed to appear anywhere else for two years after cancellation.
According to a report from Variety, the deal that was struck between Marvel Television and Netflix has a clause that specifies characters from these shows cannot appear on any non-Netflix series or film until two years after their cancellations. With this clause in place, the earliest the Marvel heroes could appear on the Disney streaming service would be 2020.
Jessica Jones and The Punisher are slated to drop in 2019. The Punisher series falls out of the parameters of the original because it was created after the other hero shows. With that being said, the future of both shows is up in the air.
