Washington Heights-bred artist Bernard Lewis, AKA “Real Deal Berns” is bringing back the art of authentic storytelling into Hip-Hop. Departing from the modern “mumble rap” fad, Berns’ vocals are clear, with classic New York tonality, backed by heavy southern bass.
With an artist pseudonym like “Real Deal,” Berns’ lyrical integrity is the backbone of his body of work. He only raps about what he’s actually been through. Spitting the truth about his upbringing in Uptown New York, Berns carries the humility of his roots in both name and music.
For his latest release, Berns issues a freestyle over a classic West-Coast instrumental, “Let Me Ride.” This serves as the first offering in a 4-part series he has planned titled “Jackin For Dre Beats.” The visual was directed by The Visual Club by Red Sydney.
