Cyntoia Brown Says She Has ‘Nothing To Do With’ New Netflix Documentary on Her Life

The story of Cyntoia Brown is headed to Netflix for the new documentary, Murder To Mercy: The Cyntoia Brown Story. The trailer contains footage of Brown speaking on life as a free woman and also detailing her issues in court.

“After 16-year-old Cyntoia Brown is sentenced to life in prison, questions about her past, physiology and the law itself call her guilt into question,” Netflix teases.

Brown was convicted of the shooting and killing of a man who paid $150 to have sex with her when she was 16-years-old. She stated that she feared fr her life and acted in self-defense, leading to life in prison.

With the documentary read to release at the end of the month, Brown states that she had nothing to do with the making of the film.

“While I was still incarcerated, a producer who has old footage of me made a deal with Netflix for an UNAUTHORIZED documentary, set to be released soon,” Brown wrote on Instagram. “My husband and I were as surprised as everyone else when we first heard the news because we did not participate in any way. However, I am currently in the process of sharing my story, in the right way, in full detail, and in a way that depicts and respects the woman I am today. While I pray that this film highlights things wrong in our justice system, I had nothing to do with this documentary.”
