Many of us have a few close friends to talk with about anything and everything, including the excitement of a new relationship. In Asmik Shiroyan’s case, her friends happen to be two talented songwriters – Krysta Youngs, who has worked with Christina Aguilera and the K-Pop band, BTS, and award winning singer/songwriter, Cooper Phillip. The three ladies pooled their creative talents to create Asmik’s dreamy and romantic slow jam, “Yes.”
Asmik’s latest single was produced by Grammy Award winning producer G’harah ‘PK’ Degeddigseve (2 Chainz, Chris Brown) and recorded in his studio in Los Angeles. Asmik wanted this song, written from the heart about her own relationship experience, to portray the beautiful feeling of an ideal, dream relationship. There are plenty of songs about pain and bad experiences, but “Yes” shows a positive side of relationships. The Pop/R&B tone and relatable lyrics put the listener in a good place. “Every girl, I think, at some stage in her relationship would go through the same feelings, and she would go through the same emotions,” Asmik said.
The polished and dream-like music video for “Yes” was filmed in Los Angeles and directed by Ash Gupta of 838 Media Group Productions. Asmik had shared the song with the skilled team of photographers and videographers whom she has known for awhile. They were able to take her vision for the single and transform it into an incredible visual piece which begins more like a dream sequence and finishes in reality. Although she was given little time to prepare for the shoot, Asmik performs choreographed dance moves as well as sings in her video.
Asmik’s soulful singing voice and seductive presence have gained her a loyal following over the years. Her sound appeals to music listeners from fourteen to forty, and she continues to add new followers to her established fan base. Asmik attributes her wide appeal to her start in Europe where she competed on ‘The Voice of Ukraine.’ The YouTube video of her performance on ‘The Voice’ has been viewed over 7 million times. She also participated in Armenia’s national final for the Eurovision Song Contest, Depi Evratesil, in 2017 and 2018.
She was singing covers back then but these days she is releasing her own original material. As a detailed storyteller, Asmik loves to experiment with different moods and styles in her songwriting, and every single is completely different. In contrast to ‘Yes,’ her previous single, “Nice” has its own sound and shares the hardship of a difficult relationship. Every listener can find some part of her music that speaks to them directly.
At the moment, Asmik is working on her next song release, along with another music video. The artist is also looking forward to singing her own songs in live performances very soon.
