‘Cops’ Canceled After Originally Being Held by Paramount Network Due to Protests

While protests occur across America to defund and abolish the police, the Paramount Network has defunded their show Cops leading to its cancellation.

“‘Cops’ is not on the Paramount Network and we don’t have any current or future plans for it to return,” a Paramount Network spokesperson said in a statement to Variety.

The decision to pull the show grew legs after the nationwide protests of police brutality that have occurred over the past couple of weeks in light of the killing of George Floyd. It originally began as a hold.

The long-running series has been on the air since 1989. It began on Fox but lately has been controversial as it highlighted some tactics from the behind-the-scenes footage. The show ran on Fox for 25 years and alongside America’s Most Wanted on Saturday nights for 14 years.

On the A&E Network a similar show, Live PD, was removed from the schedule. The network stated the reason for removal was “out of respect for the families of George Floyd and others who have lost their lives.”
