Suso FW is a Göteborg born Somalian musician who became a superstar before he turned 20. His song, “Lonesome,” is a worldwide blockbuster and has more than 180,000 views on YouTube. The young musician shot to fame after JP Soundz, and Lone Wolf agreed to produce his single. But his musical journey wasn’t as smooth as many people think.
The young musician among veterans
Most music production companies prefer working with veterans because of their experience. They hardly want to give youngsters or new musicians a chance because they don’t want to incur losses. Suso FW thinks this is the wrong approach and dents the confidence of many young musical talents, which one day may become more famous than many veterans out there.
He says, “I understand that production companies look to make profits with every new release, but they need to understand that veterans became experienced after getting a break. They didn’t become successful overnight. Music companies should trust new talents. Otherwise, they would suppress young geniuses and shun them down before they can even think of making a career in music.”
Many recording companies rejected Suso FW initially because they thought he was too young to make it big in the music industry. The same companies now want to work with him after his song, “Lonesome,” became a global hit. According to Suso FW, it’s about taking that leap of faith. He thinks that every company has a 50-50 chance of succeeding or failing to allow a new artist. But if they don’t give them a chance, they are also turning down the 50% chance of achieving success.
Why do young musicians struggle to get a chance?
Suso FW’s musical journey started even before he became a teenager. He would use his digital audio workstation to create tunes and record them. But every time he went to talk to music production companies, they would turn him down. The young musical superstar said, “It’s frustrating how music production companies want to stick to a specific formula. They don’t want to break the pattern and give newbies a chance to shine. For them, you either have to be a veteran or have contacts with veterans to get a chance to record. I had none. Many people also said that I was too young and no one would listen to my music. No one took me seriously because I didn’t have any kind of musical background. I didn’t get a formal education in music, and neither my parents were from the music industry. I think that’s a challenge for many young musicians. They don’t get the break they deserve because music companies stereotype musicians a lot. I’m fortunate that a production studio like Lone Wolf and JP Soundz showed the confidence in me that many music companies didn’t. I request everyone to please give a chance to youngsters because they can be the future stars that can take your company forward.”
“Lonesome” is still getting more views every day because of Suso FW’s fans. They know that he can produce the type of music they love. And Suso FW is confident that he can keep making his fans happy with his music.
