The Weeknd Announces Boycott of Future Grammy Ceremonies

The 2021 GRAMMY Awards are set to take place this Sunday. Last year The Weeknd expressed his beef with the awards show after not being nominated. According to the After Hours star, it was due to him being booked for the Super Bowl. Now he revealed he wants no part of the ceremony in the future.

After Hours and all of its singles are currently ruling the charts, and have been since its 2020 release, while also receiving rave reviews. Those two factors led many to wonder why the album was not acknowledged.

In response, The Weeknd shared a statement to The New York Times announcing his decision to not take place in further ceremonies due to the “secret committees.”

“I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the Grammys,” the Weeknd stated.

“We’re all disappointed when anyone is upset,” Harvey Mason Jr., interim chief executive of the Recording Academy said in reply to the statement. “But I will say that we are constantly evolving. And this year, as in past years, we are going to take a hard look at how to improve our awards process, including the nomination review committees.”
