A unique piece of music with a chill vibe.
November 2021 – Edison is an artist with a focus on creating music that combines elements of modern hip-hop with the timeless melodies of R&B and Neo-Soul. His most recent studio release is a track titled “Damage.” The single feels like a perfect calling card for the artist, who makes the most out of this song as a way to introduce his charismatic personality and next-level compositional skills. Edison’s vocals are direct and energetic. The singing unfolds perfectly over a bass-heavy, minimalistic beat that has so much width and attitude. The texture of this beat is slightly dark and haunting, but the vocals add more brightness, allowing a perfect duality to unfold, making the song special and one-of-a-kind. It’s always interesting to hear music that plays with different emotions, rather than being one-dimensional, and there is something quite remarkable about this one in particular since
Edison is never holding his heart back when performing. Clocking in at 2 minutes and 27 seconds, the song has a unique instrumental, which actually might remind the audience of productions from artists such as Mac Miller or Trippie Redd, among others. However, Edison’s vocal delivery is more akin to the work of artists such as Blackbear, only to mention one. The artist’s vocals are so unique, and there are some parts in which he combines his melodic singing with some groove-driven rap parts that have more of a rhythm to them. There are some vocal parts that overlap as well, especially using some filtered effects that add a more diverse sound to the mix, almost in a “call and response” fashion. The big bass drum and the thin snare actually work really well on the track because they create a massive dynamic range that allows the vocals to sit right in the middle. If the bass drum and the bass groove are in the “bottom end,” the snare represents the “top end” clarity of the song, and the vocal parts have all of this awesome space in the middle, where the artist can truly shine without any other element fighting for space in the song’s mix.
