J Star is a DJ and producer who has been working hard to make his name in the music industry. He loved music from an early age and wanted to create it himself. He was drawn to DJing because of its unique ability to blend different genres. Born in the Dominican Republic, J Star grew up in the musically diverse neighborhoods of Uptown Manhattan and the Bronx. He adds that he had a great and supportive family who encouraged and inspired him to pursue a professional career in music. And, when the time came, that’s exactly what J Star did.
Graduating from audio engineering school was J Star’s first step. After that, he interned at different companies like HOT 97 and KTU. J Star took every opportunity he could to hone his skills and master the basics of his craft. His natural aptitude for the career and his enthusiasm didn’t go unnoticed. Within a short while, his expertise caught the attention of someone at iHeart Radio Power 105.1, and he was hired as an on-air mixer in 2015. The platform allowed J Star to showcase his unique ability to mix different genres of music expertly. J Star wowed the world for five years in that position.
Working on highly successful shows such as the Angie Marinez Show opened even bigger doors for J Star. In 2018, he started working a weekly show at rapper Pitbull’s station Sirius XM ch. 13. This move took his career to greater heights, propelling him to international stardom within a short period. J Star says the opportunity has also allowed him to grow, showing him he is capable of more than he even gives himself credit for. He adds that it has broadened his career horizons, setting him on new paths he could only have dreamed of before.
J Star doesn’t limit his work to the studio. He is also a famous live event DJ with considerable experience. In the past, he has DJed for the Knicks at Madison Square Garden multiple times and opened for the biggest artists in the world. His admirable work ethic and professionalism have endeared him to many, earning him collaborations and partnerships with renowned international brands. Some brands he has worked with include Adidas, Nike, HBO, Coors Light, Jack Daniels, Hennessey, and the NBA, to name a few. J Star credits several things for his continued success.
Besides his work ethic, consistency is the other thing he points out. Though he admits many may think of it as a cliché, J Star says he could not be where he is if he didn’t consistently pursue his dream. He says that he has been in the game for around 15 years, but things began to look up much later in his career. With that said, he also believes in balance and taking a few personal moments with family and friends for personal development. “Life is about balance,” he says.
DJ J Star has started laying the groundwork to achieve said balance in the future. As a producer, he hopes to be working with the world’s greatest stars in the next five years. As a performer, he hopes to take his craft to bigger stages, either spinning or performing. Regardless of how that plays out, J Star says he’s just getting started and is ready to wow the world in the foreseeable future.
