Growing up in Westside Atlanta, Whoa Whoa Hot didn’t know what it felt like to have all the best things in life. He hadn’t seen many people make it out of the “hood,” and he had even started to think that was all he could ever achieve. But he didn’t stop trying. Fast forward to today, and Whoa Whoa Hot has cemented his place in the global music scene. His songs have attracted massive attention in and out of Atlanta.
Shannon Floyd, alias Whoa Whoa Hot, has released several hit songs, including his debut single, “Hot,” and his most recent track, “Lil Boy.” The song, released late last month, has caught global attention, amassing 120K views in less than a month.
Hot’s sound, unique style, work ethic, and approach to music set him apart. Whoa Whoa Hot aims to write music that is not only cool to sing along to but also empowers and motivates.
His songs are calming with powerful energy, which has seen many in the industry take note of his craft. Whoa Whoa Hot has been recognized by Pis Po Records, a new independent label out of Junction City, Kansas. His debut single, “Hot,” also caught the attention of Cory Sparks, VP of Epic Records.
While it didn’t work out between him and the label, this was a big moment for Whoa Whoa Hot and a huge milestone for an artist with only a few songs out. Meeting with Cory Sparks made Hot feel like he would make it and gave him more motivation to continue working on his craft.
He says his goal is to create music that inspires the listener to keep trying. Sometimes it feels like there is no way out, and no matter what route you take, you end up in the same place, says Whoa Whoa Hot. While it can be frustrating, you shouldn’t quit. You can make it out with hard work, determination, and strong self-belief.
Whoa Whoa Hot hasn’t had it easy. He started fending for himself at a young age, forcing him to grow up quickly. By the time he was 17, Hot was out in the streets. However, this didn’t end so well. He ended up making some mistakes, and he was incarcerated.
Whoa Whoa Hot was in and out of prison until one day, he decided this wasn’t the life he wanted for himself. A childhood friend who had heard Whoa Whoa Hot freestyle a few times encouraged him to give music a try, and as he didn’t have anything to lose, Hot began working on his music and sound.
After a few viral releases, Hot was contacted by his now label (Pis Po Records), which signed him immediately. Hot has been on billboards and done several interviews. His music has also been featured on different platforms.
He encourages young artists to invest in their craft and brand, especially their social media presence. Hot also notes the importance of staying patient and committed to your dreams. “Building a top name takes a lot of time and hard work; unless you are patient, you may never see the fruits,” says Hot. Whoa Whoa Hot has a movement, the 33 Fam, representing the Bankhead Court community where he grew up.
