Las Vegas artist and visionary Exetera has staged an incredible comeback with his latest track releases, coming almost a decade after he last shared music with the world.
Artist and visionary Exetera has shared his latest song, ‘AMG,’ as he continues to deliver the goods to fans who have followed his triumphant comeback to the music world.
Exetera – is a native of Las Vegas, Nevada. He has been making music for most of his life, with one of his crowning achievements coming in 2015 as the searingly poignant album Behind Closed Doors. Exetera’s music helped him connect with thousands of fans in a way few other artists can. He did this by delving into the darkest recesses of his soul and finding a way to talk about the trials that come with the human experience. The artist grew up in what he describes as a “troubled childhood,” meaning that his adult years came with plenty of baggage. But the artist has used music to steady the ship for himself and find ways of reaching out to others who felt like him.
But just after the release of Behind Closed Doors, he decided to take a break. He admitted that he lost creative direction and that everyday life issues – careers, relationships, etc. – finally caught up with him.
When he began putting pen to paper again almost eight years later, he found that he was writing poetry verses as much as he was writing rap verses. This led to him publishing his debut book of poetry, Destination Nowhere, earlier in 2023. The book has been called a captivating body of work and heralded his return to the art world.
His upcoming third album, Connected Disconnection, is the logical next step in that return to the art world. Exetera’s new album sees him taking all the righteous lyrical fury he’s built up over the last eight years and finally letting it loose. On songs like ‘AMG,’ Exetera gives you an insight into why he’s considered a master lyricist. This freewheeling, free-associating song is like peeking into all the white-hot chaos of Exetera’s mind. The piano chords are quietly mesmerizing (the fact that they’re sampled from the soundtrack of the iconic Kingdom Hearts video game is an extra Easter egg for millennial pop culture nerds). These chords help build a kind of sparse sonic architecture where Exetera’s quickfire verses can genuinely thrive.
He is on form here. He cites Oliver Francis and Drake as influencing his flow on this track, but lyrically, he finds ways of setting himself apart from these artists. ‘AMG’ is about juggling everything that rattles around in your mind. It’s about dreams and failures, pleasure and pain, sanity and insanity. If that sounds too chaotic and oppositional, Exetera balances it with some inspired lyrics. He somehow finds ways to rhyme “Icarus,” “Leviticus,” and “ridiculous” in a series of rhymes. Later: “levitated,” “medicated,” and “dedicated.”
It was a joy to hear him at his best.
