For fans of the NBC hit procedural show Magnum P.I., star Jay Hernandez gave his take on the series coming to an end.
Replying to a fan on X, you know that platform Elon renamed from Twitter, Hernandez who plays the lead on the show gave his two cents, rather wishful thinking that he’d like to see a standalone film come to life. He also understandably so was not all to happy on how it all buttoned up after nearly 100 episodes.
I actually floated the idea of a standalone film. I suppose it's still possible. If I'm being totally honest I didn't love the show ending how it did. “I actually floated the idea of a standalone film. I suppose it’s still possible. If I’m being totally honest I didn’t love the show ending how it did,” Rodriguez said. “That being said, to all the #magnum #ohana thank you for always supporting us! Y’all have been AMAZING. We’re humbled by your dedication.”
The show was actually cancelled back in 2022 on CBS but was brought back to life for two more season on rival legacy network NBC.
Still, Hernandez was humble and ensured he gave all the flowers to the fans who enjoyed the show, via tweet.
“That is actually something the show and you(the audience) have taught me,” Hernandez responded to a fan who said the show maid a difference in their lives. “I would be really hard on the process, never being satisfied and always wanting it to be better. Taking a step back and seeing how much the show meant to you guys was a lesson for me. Thank you 4that.”
If you aren’t up to speed, Magnum P.I. was a reboot of the original 1980’s show that starred Tom Selleck, who you may know these days from those AAG commercials selling insurance. Back to the reboot … The new series followed the titular character played by Jay Hernandez, who was a former NAVY Seal turned private investigator as he fights bad guys and solves impossible crimes in the great state of Hawaii. Magnum P.I. also starred Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton, Stephen Hill, Tim Kang and Amy Hill. Best of luck to the cast, producers, directors and crew on what lies ahead!
