Alejandro Amézquita has carved out his space as a guitarist who understands the pulse of contemporary music. With a background that crosses multiple genres and high-profile performances, Alejandro is a musician who blends technical skill with the art of knowing when to stay in the background and when to step into the spotlight.
Amézquita’s career path reflects careful decisions, steady growth, and adaptability. Born in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, his musical journey was sparked early by a Guns N’ Roses concert that ignited his passion for guitar. “That’s the show that changed everything for me,” Alejandro recalls. “The energy of the crowd was mind blowing, and the performance spectacular. I knew I wanted to be part of that world”
After perfecting his skills in his hometown, Alejandro made the bold move to Los Angeles at 19, where he attended the Musicians Institute. His time there was pivotal, surrounding him with artists who, like him, would go on to have their own careers. But it wasn’t long before Alejandro found himself working with artists across a range of styles.
Amézquita performed alongside Mickey Guyton at the Rose Parade’s New Year Celebration. Broadcast live to millions, it was a chance for Alejandro to show off his versatility to a large audience.
“I’ve always enjoyed performing live,” he says, “but TV appearances make you approach the performance with a different mindset. You only get one chance to make it right, but that’s exactly what makes it exciting.”
The following year, Alejandro made it to one of the most iconic stages of all times, Jimmy Kimmel Live! when he worked with Don Toliver and NAV to perform their hit song “One Time.” Alejandro’s input in the live arrangement deviated from the original track by introducing live guitar parts to the performance.
“Since the original track didn’t have live instruments, it was all about finding the right balance when adding new elements. I came up with guitar parts that kept the integrity of the track while giving it a bit more energy,” Alejandro explains.
Later on, Alejandro performed at the Olé Music Festival in San Diego with Latin artist Carmen DeLeon, where he experienced firsthand the challenges of festival performances.
“Festivals amplify everything; they demand performances that instantly connect with thousands. As long as you spark that initial excitement into the audience everything flows seamlessly,” says Alejandro, who thrives in these high-energy environments.
In 2023, Alejandro embarked on a significant chapter of his career as part of Doobie’s headline tour, performing 32 shows across the United States.
At the studio, he’s also worked on high-profile projects and with a range of artists such as Randy Jackson, with whom Alejandro wrote and worked on new material.
Most recently, in 2024, he joined Grammy-winning artist Fantasía.
