Elza Coutinho: Bridging Bengaluru’s Rhythm with Global Beats

Elza Coutinho, a Bengaluru-born playback and mix engineer, record producer, and creative, has made a name for herself in the music industry. Following her dream Elza embarked on a journey that took her from India to the dynamic underground music scene of Los Angeles.

“My professional journey began when I taught myself how to produce music,” she shares. It started as an experiment with friends and evolved into a passion that led her to the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California. “I was committed to making my dreams come true, and I needed the best education for that.” After moving to LA in 2022, she immersed herself in its underground music scene, forging connections with creatives that paved the way for collaborations with artists like LA Laura Paris, Shal Antal, and Sierra Stone.

Elza’s engineering expertise was integral to LA Laura Paris’ debut EP, Underground Girl. Reflecting on the process, she says, “Laura shared her demos, and I was inspired by her determination and vision. We coordinated studio sessions, experimenting with instruments and sounds, making sure her personality shone through in every track.” Elza’s focus on cultivating a supportive environment allowed Laura to “manifest her dream” and create music that was both authentic and vibrant.

While Elza’s work in the studio is impressive, her accomplishments as a playback engineer have truly set her apart. She has worked on tours with high-profile artists like Chxrry22 and Queen Naija, helping deliver unforgettable live performances. “What excites me most about being a playback engineer,” she says, “is working with insanely talented people and putting on a really good show. I love seeing people’s reactions to a performance—it’s truly magical.”

Elza recalls her time on The Weeknd’s After Hours Til Dawn tour in Australia as one of her proudest moments. “It was my first time in Australia and my first stadium tour,” she explains. “I had never seen so many people in one place, and I was nervous. But after the first show, we found our rhythm, and it was incredible.” Her ability to stay present and enjoy the moment proved essential, not only in overcoming challenges but in fostering a positive energy.

For Elza, producing and engineering tracks is as much about understanding the artist as it is about technical expertise. “Listening is key,” she emphasizes. “Each artist has their own creative process, so it’s important to empathize with what they need. Whether it’s taking a break over Thai food or spending hours on vocal takes, my goal is to create an environment where their energy can shine.”

This approach has made Elza a trusted collaborator for artists looking to bring their visions to life. Coutinho is excited to continue working with LA Laura Paris and Sierra Stone on their upcoming singles and albums, while also supporting future tours with Chxrry22 and Queen Naija.

Elza’s advice to those hoping to follow in her footsteps is simple yet profound: “Have a clear and specific vision of what you want to achieve, and let that guide you. Don’t give up—it’s not easy, but if it’s your dream, put in the work, learn from your mistakes, and trust the journey.”
