Diddy’s legal team has accused CNN of digitally altering and destroying the original footage of the mogul assaulting Cassie, but the network has swiftly denied these allegations.
In a statement to TMZ, CNN rejected the claim, stating: “CNN never altered the video and did not destroy the original copy of the footage, which was retained by the source. CNN aired the story about the video several months before Combs was arrested.”
The timeline supports CNN’s stance. The security footage of Diddy attacking Cassie was released in May 2024, while his arrest by federal agents didn’t occur until September. While the video played a role in his legal troubles, it also shifted public opinion against him, prompting him to issue a widely criticized apology video.
Diddy’s legal team insists they have direct correspondence proving their claims, stating: “Our written and oral communications with CNN’s counsel were clear. They destroyed the original video file they received from their source.”
Meanwhile, Diddy’s lawyers are preparing for his upcoming trial, which is currently set for May 5. They have requested additional time to build his defense, opposing federal prosecutors’ proposed jury selection date of April 21. His team has also asked potential jurors to fill out questionnaires and that select jurors be sequestered during the process.
With significant legal battles ahead, Diddy’s defense team continues to push back, while CNN stands firm in its denial of tampering with the controversial footage.
