Vince Staples and Power Rangers? Did anybody have that on their bingo card today? The rapper-turned-actor has made it clear he’s ready to suit up for Disney’s upcoming Power Rangers series. Staples expressed his interest in joining the reboot after learning that Percy Jackson and the Olympians showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz were spearheading the project. On March 19, Staples took to Twitter with a straightforward pitch: “Call me, [on the] dead homies.”
As expected, the announcement sparked a wave of reactions from fans. While some were excited about the possibility, others brought up the infamous “Power Rangers curse,” referencing the challenges faced by past cast members. Staples, never one to shy away from a challenge, responded with his signature boldness, stating, “I’ll die for what I believe in, n**ga.”
Interestingly, many of Manny’s supporters were fully on board with the idea. One fan imagined Staples as a sharp-witted, gun-toting Blue Ranger. At the same time, another went a step further, digitally editing his face onto Billy Cranston’s (the original Blue Ranger) and placing him in a suburban Los Angeles setting. A third fan even declared that Staples would rank as the second-best Blue Ranger ever, just behind Justin Stewart from Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, the 1997 film that inspired a generation of kids.
As reported by TheWrap, Disney+ and Hasbro are teaming up to “reinvent the franchise for a new generation while keeping longtime fans engaged.” Hasbro, which acquired the Power Rangers rights in 2018, aims to breathe new life into the beloved series with this reboot.
Landing a role in the Power Rangers universe wouldn’t be a stretch for Staples. The multi-talented artist has already proven his acting chops with his Netflix series, The Vince Staples Show, which premiered in February 2024 and was quickly renewed for a second season. He’s also made notable appearances in films like Dope and White Men Can’t Jump and guest roles in TV shows like Insecure and Abbott Elementary. Additionally, his voice work in animation has garnered praise, further showcasing his versatility as a performer.
