Playboi Carti has secured his second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, as MUSIC debuts atop the chart dated March 29. The highly anticipated project opened with 298,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. for the week ending March 20, according to Luminate. This marks the biggest debut for a rap album in 2025 and the largest streaming week for a rap project in nearly two years.
MUSIC follows Carti’s 2021 chart-topping Whole Lotta Red and becomes his third top-10 entry, alongside 2018’s Die Lit (No. 3). Of its first-week total, 283,000 units came from streaming, with the album generating 384 million on-demand official streams across its 30-track edition. It also debuted at No. 1 on the Top Streaming Albums chart. Traditional album sales accounted for 14,500 units, landing it at No. 3 on Top Album Sales, while track-equivalent album (TEA) units contributed 500.
The only album to post a bigger debut in 2025 so far is The Weeknd’s Hurry Up Tomorrow, which launched with 490,000 units in February. Additionally, MUSIC logged the biggest streaming week for a rap album since Drake’s For All the Dogs amassed 514 million streams in October 2023.
