Dr. Dre’s Former Marriage Counselor Claims He Now Wears Bulletproof Gear Out of Fear

The ongoing legal battle between Dr. Dre and his former marriage counselor has taken a dramatic new turn, with the psychiatrist now claiming he’s living in fear for his life and resorting to wearing a bulletproof cap and vest.

According to In Touch, Dr. Charles J. Sophy, who filed a $10 million civil harassment lawsuit against the legendary producer in October 2024, submitted a declaration to Los Angeles Superior Court on March 14, detailing the intense emotional distress he alleges to have suffered due to Dre’s behavior.

Dr. Sophy originally filed the suit accusing Dre—real name Andre Young, now 60—of harassing him with threatening text messages. The tension allegedly stems from Dre’s belief that Sophy had influenced his children during his contentious divorce, turning them against him. Dre has denied all allegations.

In his recent filing, Dr. Sophy painted a picture of escalating fear, saying Dre’s alleged actions have forced him to take “extreme security measures” to protect himself.

“As a result of this incident, [Dre’s] unlawful conduct, and the numerous harassing text messages sent by [Dre], I have been forced to resort to extreme security measures out of fear for my life,” Sophy wrote.

The psychiatrist, who once served as the medical director for the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, claims he now wears a bulletproof vest and cap whenever he leaves his home, has installed high-level security cameras, and even hired private security.

“I am afraid to leave my home, and I am constantly looking over my shoulder,” he said. “The threatening and harassing text messages sent over a period of seven months have caused me to suffer severe emotional distress, panic, debilitating fear, extreme worry, pain and suffering, and mental anguish.”

In the declaration, Dr. Sophy also alleged that Dre had previously sent fake FBI agents to his gated community in a supposed attempt to intimidate him—an accusation Dre has firmly denied.

The lawsuit underscores the fallout from Dre’s highly publicized divorce and the blurred boundaries between personal disputes and professional relationships. With a $10 million claim and growing concerns about safety, the case continues to unfold in court.

As of now, Dr. Dre has not made any public statements regarding the latest claims, and the case remains ongoing.
