Oh, really? In another court ruling in favor of Drake’s legal team, the court has provided Drake’s side with authorization to obtain Kendrick Lamar’s contractual agreements and other relevant documents as part of an ongoing lawsuit.
The potentially impactful decision came during a pretrial conference where Judge Jeanette Vargas denied Universal Music Group’s request to halt the discovery process.
As we reported, this allows Drake’s attorneys to proceed with gathering evidence, including deposing company executives and reviewing internal records.
ICYMI, UMG had previously sought to delay discovery, arguing that Drake’s document requests—which included Lamar’s contracts, compensation details for Interscope CEO John Janick, and other executive agreements—placed an “undue burden” on the company. The label contended these demands would necessitate extensive review of physical and digital records.
Nope. Delay, denied.
In a previously reported statement, Drake’s lead counsel, Michael Gottlieb, responded to the ruling, stating: “Now it’s time to see what UMG was so desperately trying to hide.”
Wonder what that contract says? Maybe nothing at all, time will tell.
