Qwovay is a name you need to remember. Born and raised in San Bernardino, California, his journey into music started young, inspired by his brother Phreshy Knockz, a rapper who worked with West Coast legends like Kokane. Watching his brother collaborate with artists showed Qwovay that success was possible, but he wanted to tell his own story—the story of struggle, survival, and the realities of growing up with nothing.
His lyrics aren’t fiction. They come from lived experiences—sleeping in cars, washing windows at gas stations for money, and witnessing the harsh realities of low-income housing. “I am a reflection of the streets,” he says. “That’s what I rap about, because that’s all I know.” His music is raw, unfiltered, and unapologetically real.
Qwovay started rapping when he was just three years old, something that’s even documented in a “bootleg-looking” video on YouTube. His passion for music was never about fame—it was about expression. Over the years, he honed his craft, turning his experiences into verses and his struggles into powerful anthems. His biggest lesson in life came from understanding that material things don’t matter in the end. “The most challenging thing I’ve overcome is realizing that when you die, you can’t take anything with you. So, I’ve learned to enjoy life while I have it.”
He credits his brother Phreshy Knockz as his greatest musical inspiration, but beyond that, Qwovay raps because he genuinely loves it. His lyrics aren’t meant to be taken personally—they’re a form of storytelling. “I’m just expressing myself through music. If you don’t like it, that’s fine. This is America—you’re free to listen to whatever you want. But I don’t mean any harm; I’m just telling it how I see it.”
Through hard work and authenticity, Qwovay has earned the opportunity to collaborate with major artists. His greatest achievement so far has been working with names like OG Cuicide, Snoop Dogg, AD, Juicy J, and Gucci Mane. His latest album, Caly’s Burning, features an all-star lineup including Snoop Dogg, Juicy J, OG Cuicide, Gucci Mane, Jay Locc, and Mr. Green Eyz. The project is available now on iTunes, Spotify, and all major streaming platforms.
When it comes to creating music, Qwovay pulls directly from life. “I write my songs based on what I go through, what I see on the streets, and how people treat me. Everything comes from real experiences.” While many artists dream of collaborations, he feels like he’s already worked with some of the best. Right now, his focus is on continuing to build his legacy, spending time in the studio, and shooting music videos.
At the end of the day, Qwovay keeps it simple. When asked what he wants people to know about him, his response is direct: “I am the realest.” No gimmicks, no fabrication—just real music from real experiences. With Caly’s Burning setting the streets on fire, he’s proving that his story, his struggle, and his talent are impossible to ignore.
